Precision mechanist

Precision mechanists (m/f) ("Feinwerkmechaniker/innen") manufacture products of pressing and cutting technology and plastic metal working as well as fixture technology and mould making. Also, they produce machines, devices, and systems, which they provide maintenance and repair for. 

Graduation: There is no regulatory framework requiring a special education. Companies mostly employ trainees that have achieved the general certificate of secondary education ( "Realschulabschluss" or "Hauptschulabschluss").

Type of occupation: recognized occupation requiring formal training

Type of training: dual training in industry and trade (on the basis of training regulations)

Places of training: training company and vocational school (dual training)

The lessons are held in so-called lesson blocks ("Blockunterricht"; also see "Blockplan"). There is a theoretical part as well as a practical part. 

Duration of training:  3,5 years

Part 1 of the "Gesellenprüfung" exam takes place prior to the second training year.

Part 2 of the "Gesellenprüfung" exam takes place after 3,5 years (November).
